International Jazz Band's Prize of Montauban, MATMUT Trophy: the Results

The Jury of the International Jazz Bands Prize of Montauban, 2nd edition, has deliberated. Three orchestras have been chosen among 150 applications received from 15 different countries to perform during the finale which will take place on July 9th 2012 as part of the festival Jazz à Montauban.

- Remi Toulon Trio, France
- Mo’Drums, France
- Just Friend Quintet, France

During the finale, each orchestra will have to interpret a music piece of their choice and another one chosen by the President of the Jury 2012, François Lacharme (President of the Academy of Jazz, Jazz Magazine-Jazzmag, FIP): « Whisper Not », by Benny Golson.
The finale to be held on July 9 at 11:30 am at the Botanical Garden of Montauban is opened to the public, access free. Come to discover and support jazz talents!

High rise for Malted Milk

No need to introduce Maceo Parker: living Funk legend, the famous saxophonist knows how to make himself closer to the public: not less than 200 dates per year for 3 hours of show! "2% Jazz, 98% Funky Stuff," is his motto!
However, the first part of the famous saxophonist knows a high rise: Malted Milk is now considered asone of the best Soul-Blues-Funk French bands. A nice rise due to their latest album "Sweet Soul Blues," long remained at the top of the selss in France. Postitive criticism flow, which was confirmed by an article in The Inrocks (read the article). Described as a "great groove machine" the band now enjoys an international success.

Aloe Blacc is a soul singer, rapper and musician. His first solo album, titled Shine Through was released in 2006.

After being chosen as the generic music of the last HBO series "How to Make It in America", the song "I need a dollar" has propelled its author Aloe Blacc on the front stage.

Ahmad Jamal, who will be at the Botanical Garden of Montauban on July 3td, will celebrate his birthday : 82 years old ! An age which does not have any influence on the artist, decided to look forward not to regret anything and live his life dedicated to his music.

The preselection committee has made its ratings after eight days spent listening to all applications! 20 bands are selected for the semi-finals (the list of the selected groups will be revealed with the announcement of three finalists). Now it is the jury's task to choose, blindly, three finalists who will perform at the Botanical Garden of Montauban on July 9, 2012 to interpret a track of their choice and a title chosen by Francois Lacharme, president of the jury.

Registrations end after a world tour ! This year 15 countries will join us for the second edition of the Montauban International Jazz Bands’ Prize "Matmut Trophy".
We will welcome France, Italy, Germany and Spain, but also the United States, Holland, Finland, Sweden, Israel, Japan, Denmark, Poland, the Dominican Republic and the Republic of Macedonia.
A total of 140 registrations has arrived in the office of Jazz à Montauban !

The Montauban International Jazz Bands’ Prize doesn’t stop ! Registrations keep flowing from all countries, so we have the pleasure to welcome for the qualifications :

23 Italians, 6 English, 7 Germans, 4 Spanish, 1 Israeli, 1 Dominican, 1 Japanese, 1 American, 1 Danish, and about a hundred French. All of this represents about 500 musicians !

One day left to register. Final report next week.

According to Miles Davis, who was not famous for being generous with his compliments, Ahmad Amal’s playing is “THE way to play piano”. And so this iconic figure of Jazz will open the festivities of Jazz à Montauban next July 3. Years keep flowing on this musician without leaving a mark on him, so he says : “this is great, but I want to stay alive, I have to look ahead. When you speak in the past, it is ruined for you ! What is my favorite CD ? The next one !” An outstanding musician and a person of exception in many ways... to (re)discover in music !

Registrations keep flowing ! We notice a large participation of foreign orchestras. Indeed, we have the pleasure to welcome for the qualifications :

8 Italians, 4 English, 2 Germans, 1 Spanish, 1 Israeli, 1 Dominican, 1 Japanese, and of course many French.

It is now official ! The 10^th of July will definitely be a Jazz in Montownban evening ! Aloe Black, whose track “I Need a Dollar” constantly ranks at the top of the french and foreign charts, will succeed to the jazzy and soul FM Laeti.

To ensure an opening of the Prize at the international level, Jazz à Montauban has spread the information through 150 different countries, to the main Jazz schools, and over 80 conservatories and thousands of Jazz Bands.

A multitude of sparks scattered across the world. Some of them will ignite the stage of the Jardin des Plantes (Botanical Garden) during the festival Jazz à Montauban.
